What Matters when you go to sleep

What Matters

I was having a conversation with a person who was struggling with sleep issues and during the conversation, one thing stood out.

He was not working because of this issue with sleep.

He was taking medications that gave him sleep but now they had stopped working.

The tone was that of desperation and lost hope that he could do something meaningful with life.

I do understand that the pain is real, I don’t deny that.

The guy had made Sleep the villain in his life. He could not work because he was not sleeping, he could not digest food because his sleep was not good. He was spending his life just waiting to fix his sleep.

The family was living on an income from the pension of his retired father. He could not see any hope because it had been more than 10 years since he could sleep well.

But then this is the biggest paradox when it comes to sleep.

The harder you try to sleep the difficult it is to sleep.

He sounded hopeless, but then I told him to do something that could transform his life.

That was to create things. Do things that he has never done. Recently I saw the Ted Talk by Simone Giertz. She struggled with Performance Anxiety because she was a straight-A student and anytime she got a B this would freak her out.

She explained how by creating daily and failing she could completely remove Anxiety from her life.

Jim Rohn in his book My Philosophy for Successful Living mentions that the first reason why he was successful is because he had the habit of producing every day.

He created every single day and then the feeling of satisfaction gave him the impetus to create more.

So, the way out of this situation is to keep creating things and get the satisfaction of ending the day with a feeling of satisfaction rather than that of desperation to sleep.

To help you come out of this situation I have a free weekly newsletter on how you can improve your sleep.
