๐–๐š๐ซ๐ง๐ข๐ง๐ : ๐˜๐จ๐ฎ ๐ฆ๐š๐ฒ ๐›๐ž ๐ฅ๐จ๐ฌ๐ข๐ง๐  ๐Œ๐จ๐ง๐ž๐ฒ ๐›๐ž๐œ๐š๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ž ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ ๐š๐ซ๐ž ๐ง๐จ๐ญ ๐ฌ๐ฅ๐ž๐ž๐ฉ๐ข๐ง๐ .

I have heard this statement quite often saying that “I used to do one night study before the exam in my Engineering days.”

This practice is being continued in the working days also. While this seems fruitful because
a) your task is completed,
b) you get recognition because people think you have done something great by completing the work by going beyond the demand of sleep.

But trust me on this can be far detrimental because you start getting conditioned like Pavlov experiment behavior where he conditioned the dog’s eating by ringing a bell.

Every time you get a job you will be forced to cut down on sleep and work.

This behavior of cutting down on sleep may work in the short run but can have severe long-term consequences because now your working memory will be degrading.

I was having a conversation with my Friendย Dipti Kala,ย and she said that because of her not sleeping well she was not ready to take on a challenging job.

So, you could lose your next promotion. You could lose your pay cut or a lot of things by deliberately cutting down on your sleep.

I am reminded of this famous quote by the Dalai Lama “Man sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health.”

So, if you are struck with this habit of cutting down on sleep because of either work or entertainment it is high time you re-evaluate your choices because the consequences could cost you larger Money than you make in the short term.
